William Barr will give a press conference on the Mueller report Thursday. Here’s how to watch.

Attorney General William Barr will hold a press conference Thursday morning about the release of the Mueller report, Justice Department officials have confirmed.

Barr and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein — who appointed and oversaw special counsel Robert Mueller for much of his tenure — will address reporters at 9:30 am Eastern time on the findings of the nearly two-year investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

The DOJ has since confirmed that the report will be handed over to Congress later in the day — between 11 am and noon Eastern time — which means Barr …

These immigrants contribute $4.6 billion in taxes. Trump’s trying to strip their legal status.

Immigrants with temporary legal status — whom President Donald Trump is trying to deport — want Americans to know that they pay billions of dollars in taxes to the IRS every year.

To be more precise, they pay about $4.6 billion in federal, state, and local taxes each year, according to a new report from researchers at the University of Southern California, the left-leaning Center for American Progress, and the National TPS Alliance, which advocates on behalf of immigrants with Temporary Protected Status (TPS). These families, most of whom are from Central America, also spend about $1.5 billion each year …

Notre Dame has always been the people’s cathedral

Notre Dame de Paris was never the preferred cathedral of kings. French monarchs avoided it, preferring to be crowned at Reims, about 80 miles northeast of Paris, and buried at the Basilica of Saint-Denis, which is now a Parisian suburb.

Notre Dame was instead the cathedral of ordinary Parisians. Since the Middle Ages, it’s been the backdrop against which the city’s inhabitants have lived their lives. The building, which stands on a small island in the Seine River, was a constant amid the upheaval of the French Revolution and the terrors of the Nazi occupation. As one 14th century scholar …

Bernie Sanders’s Fox News town hall wasn’t a debate. Bernie won anyway.

Bernie Sanders’s Fox News town hall, which aired Monday night, showed that contrary to the belief of many of his detractors (and some of his supporters), the Vermont senator really does have more than one rhetorical mode.

There was the mode he used for the town hall part, and the mode he used for the Fox News part — represented by anchors Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum, who liberally interspersed questions from the audience with questions of their own.

When speaking directly to audience members or to the TV audience watching at home, Sanders was sincere and open. When …

The devastating Notre Dame Cathedral fire, in 13 photos

The iconic Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France, is burning in a massive fire that has already destroyed the monument’s spire and is threatening to consume the entire structure.

The blaze erupted at the centuries-old cathedral on Monday around 6:30 pm local time; news of the fire spread rapidly on social media as people shared photos showing bright-orange flames and smoke pouring from a spire of the church.

Images on social media later showed the cathedral’s spire collapsing, swallowed up by the blaze.

The cause of the fire is not yet clear, though police told the Guardian that …

Watch: Game of Thrones’ opening credits get a dramatic overhaul for season 8

Game of Thrones changes its opening credits with each and every episode, both to signify which actors appear in the coming installment and to display the various locations it will encompass. The aerial fly-over of Westeros (and Essos, before season seven) features the cities and citadels, the castles and keeps, that feature in each hour.

But the credits have rarely received as dramatic an overhaul as they did in the season eight premiere, “Winterfell.” Because the episode takes place in just three locations — the main hubs of Winterfell and King’s Landing, as well as the never-before-seen Last Hearth (the …

Trump officials say sanctuary city migrant plan under review

President Donald Trump’s surrogates tried to clarify his tweeted proposal to bus detained immigrants to “sanctuary cities” Sunday, but left the matter nearly as unsettled as it had been when the president initially reintroduced the plan his own administration had declared dead.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders and presidential counselor Kellyanne Conway appeared on This Week with George Stephanopolous and Meet the Press, respectively, to discuss immigration. Sanders endorsed the proposal, but stopped short of saying it would become White House policy to place migrants from the US/Mexico border in liberal districts with self-declared “sanctuary cities,” such as Nancy …

Trump leaves door open for third North Korea summit

President Donald Trump signaled he’s open to another summit with North Korea in a pair of tweets Saturday. The president’s message followed a speech by Kim Jong Un last week in which the leader presented the US with a deadline for moving negotiations between the two countries forward.

According to North Korean state media, Kim took a tough approach, saying, “It is essential for the US to quit its current calculation method and approach us with a new one.”

The North Korean leader said he plans to give the Trump administration “till the end of this year” to come …
